The picture speaks for itself: look closely at the middle terminal. Maybe you expect to find this on an episode of a remodel TV show. It should not be like this in a three year old heat pump, in a mechanical room.

“Normal wear and aging is one thing. Poor materials and workmanship is dangerous, expensive and preventable.”

It is a low current situation. No fuses were blow. And it was generating a TON of heat to melt all the components around it. Diagnosis? Loose wire. Imagine if paper manuals were stuffed in the enclosure. Or if the mechanical room was messy, cluttered, oily, dirty. It is impossible to know what the cause was now. Could just be “one of those things.” But it should make owners think twice about low bid equipment and labor solutions.
